This test is used to detect Chlamydia trachomatis. Infections with Chlamydia trachomatis are the most common sexually transmitted infections.

Younger adults (15-25 years), persons with frequently changing sex partners, sexual partners (also unnoticed and without symptoms), infected persons as well as newborns of infected mothers are most commonly affected. Infections without sexual contact (e.g. in swimming pools) are rare but not impossible.

How do I get a result?

You will get a result in minutes- there is nothing to send away. If you get a positive result you will need to speak with your doctor who will arrange treatment.

What are the symptoms?

Chlamydia trachomatis infection may not cause any obvious symptoms.

However, Chlamydia trachomatis can sometimes lead to complications such as eye inflammation, arthritis and inflammation of the urinary tract. Furthermore, undiagnosed and untreated infections often lead to infertility and an increased risk of ectopic pregnancies and premature births. In developing countries, infection with Chlamydia trachomatis is the most common cause for the loss of sight of newborn babies.

The treatment of Chlamydia-infections during pregnancy is very important, around 50% of infected mothers pass the infection to their babies. Frequent complications with newborn babies are conjunctivitis and pneumonia.
