About screening for chlamydia infections
This chlamydia home test kit is used to detect Chlamydia trachomatis infection in women without the need to visit your doctor. Infections with Chlamydia trachomatis are the most common sexually transmitted infections. Younger adults (15-25 years), persons with frequently changing sex partners, sexual partners (also unnoticed and without symptoms), of infected persons as well as newborns of infected mothers are most commonly affected. Infections without sexual contact (e.g. in swimming pools) are rare but not impossible.
How reliable is the test?
In a trial of 596 patients, the self test kit was compared with the PCR laboratory method and gave a sensitivity of 86% and specificity of 98%.
The test is CE marked according to the IVD Directive 98/79EC and has been shown to be easy to use by lay persons with over 96% of users correctly interpreting the result as positive or negative.
How do I get a result?
You will get a reliable result in minutes - there is nothing to send away. If you get a positive result you will need to speak with your doctor who will arrange treatment.
What are the symptoms of chlamydia?
Chlamydia trachomatis infection may not cause any obvious symptoms. However, Chlamydia trachomatis can sometimes lead to complications such as eye inflammation, arthritis and inflammation of the urinary tract. Furthermore, undiagnosed and untreated infections often lead to infertility and an increased risk of ectopic pregnancies and premature births. In developing countries, infection with Chlamydia trachomatis is the most common cause for the loss of sight of newborn babies.
The treatment of Chlamydia-infections during pregnancy is very important, around 50% of infected mothers pass the infection to their babies. Frequent complications with newborn babies are conjunctivitis and pneumonia.
This test is for sampling from the cervix and therefore only for use by women.
